1. Structure and principle
The toggle switch is mainly composed of a shell, a handle, a contact piece and a pin. It has one or more metal contact plates inside which are fixed on an insulating base. When the handle is flipped, the contact piece moves accordingly, changing the state of the connection with the pin. For example, in one of the simplest single-pole single-throw toggle switches, there are two pins, when the handle is turned to one side, the contact plate connects the two pins, and the circuit is switched on; When the handle is turned to the other side, the contact piece is separated from the pin and the circuit is disconnected.

Single pole single Throw (SPST) : This switch has only one input and one output, just like a simple light switch, which either leads the current to light up or disconnects the circuit to light up. For example, many of the switches of small electronic devices such as flashlights are single-pole single-throw toggle switches used to control the light bulb.
Single pole double throw (SPDT) : It has one input and two outputs. The circuit can be switched between two different states. For example, in a simple audio device, a single-pole double-throw toggle switch can be used to switch the connection between the headset and the external speaker, connecting the headset when dialed to one side and the speaker when dialed to the other side.
Double-pole single-throw (DPST) : There are two independent input-output channels, and both channels are switched on or off at the same time. It is used in devices that need to control two similar circuits at the same time, such as controlling the forward and reverse power supplies of two motors at the same time.
Double-pole double-throw (DPDT) : It has two inputs and four outputs and is able to switch between two different sets of connections. This is useful in more complex circuit switching scenarios, such as in complex electronic device test beds, where the switch can be toggle by double-pole double-throw
